Construction Business Review has named Southern Maryland Kitchen, Bath, Floors & Design to its list of Top Residential Kitchen and Floor Remodeling Services 2026. The October 2026 issue includes a profile of our company and CEO Anthony Obedoza, plus a deep-dive article on why some remodels stay on track while others drift.

Why Anthony Obedoza Founded SOMD in 2009
Anthony started the company after seeing homeowners stuck between design and construction. Plenty of contractors could build. Fewer could design well, and fewer still kept clients informed enough that they never had to wonder what was happening inside their own home.
He also noticed contractors shrinking a project’s scope because they worried a bigger plan would cost them the sale. We built SOMD on the opposite bet. As Anthony told the magazine, “We measure value by how well a space serves the homeowner over time.”
You See the Finished Room Before Anything Is Ordered
Our designers produce blueprints, elevations, cabinetry specifications, electrical plans, tile layouts and photorealistic renderings for every project. You see the whole plan before a single material is purchased.
Flooring is chosen at the same time as cabinetry, tile, lighting and any mobility requirements. The floor gets designed as part of the room instead of being picked later on its own.
You’ll compare finishes side by side in our 6,000-square-foot showroom. The design phase ends with a firm fixed-price proposal, so changes happen on paper rather than on the jobsite after the walls are open.
Daily Updates Come to You
Once construction starts, our team shares daily job logs and photos through our project app. You’ll know who’s scheduled, what’s planned and what’s finished without having to call and ask.
Our in-house crews handle the work, which cuts the handoffs between planning and field execution where mistakes tend to slip in. The magazine’s deep dive made a point we agree with. A higher proposal can be the better deal when it includes the design work and project control that would otherwise fall on the homeowner.
Helping One Homeowner Stay in the Home They Knew
The feature highlights one of our larger accessibility projects, a renovation approaching seven figures. After an unexpected change in mobility, the homeowner wanted to stay in the house they knew.
We redesigned several essential living areas around accessibility and independence and created additional space for the household’s changing needs. The homeowner lived elsewhere during construction, so daily photos and job logs became their window into the work. Our production managers reviewed the same updates, and concerns were resolved while crews were still on site.
Named a Top Remodeler Every Year Since 2015
SOMD has been named among the nation’s top residential remodeling contractors every year since 2015. We’ve also held an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau for more than 15 years.
Anthony is the only certified Living in Place professional in Southern Maryland. That credential shapes how we plan for homeowners who want to stay in their homes as their needs change.
